Tailored Holiday » Botswana
Natives of Botswana are a proud people, and rightly so. This quiet landlocked country is, quite literally, a diamond in the rough. The nation stands out as an exemplary model of functioning democratic stability and economic development in Africa. Known as the great ‘thirstland,’ a staggering 85% of Botswana’s territory is dominated by the Kalahari Desert. Yet amidst the sprawling, scrub-spotted savanna exists a remarkable Eden - the Okavango Delta. This rare combination of desert and wetland bestows Botswana with an eclectic collection of wildlife, including the famed Big Five and over 1000 different species of bird. From environment to culture, Botswana is a true gem of a country - a shining paragon of harmony in diversity.
Dominating a substantial portion of Botswana’s arid interior is the expansive Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Just east of here are the mirage-like Makgadikgadi Pans, comprising Nxai & Makgadikgadi Pans National Park.
Snuggled in the eastern corner of Botswana, between natural borders of the Shashe and Limpopo rivers, is the Tuli Block.
Northern Botswana incorporates two of the nation’s most renowned natural attractions: the lively Chobe National Park and magnificent Okavango Delta.
Please feel free to browse our regions highlights and photo galleries to select places that appeal to your travel preferences!
Testing the limits of survival

CENTRAL KALAHARI
The sprawling Kalahari Desert is one of the most prominent and impressive features on the African continent.
Contrary to popular belief, only a small section of the Kalahari is the dune-sporting, windswept wasteland characteristic of ‘true’ deserts.
Imaginary lakes

MAKGADIKGADI PANS
Thousands of years ago, what was once a colossal lake dominating a significant portion of present-day Southern Africa evaporated and left behind the largest salt pan complex in the world: the Makgadikgadi Pans.
While winter in Makgadikgadi is a sizzling affair with the air itself seeming to melt around you, spring rains revive the region as temporary water holes attract scores of mammals and birds.
On the banks of Limpopo river

TULI BLOCK
Originally set aside for private ranches along the country’s easternmost border is a region known as the Tuli Block.
Determined agriculturally futile, the lands were collectively turned into private game reserves and developed for tourism.
classic safari experience

CHOBE
Boasting an astounding concentration of wildlife species, Chobe National Park is one of Africa’s top game-viewing locations - a superb destination for the classic safari experience.
Boating down the Chobe River or driving alongside it is sure to present close encounters with a wide variety of animals including hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, wildebeest, cheetahs, bat-eared foxes, spotted hyenas, zebra, giraffe, and a plethora bird species.
Under the spell of the spillway

OKAVANGO DELTA
Viewed from space, the Okavango Delta stands out like the jolly green giant’s handprint in the middle of an otherwise desertous region in Southern Africa.
This impressive feature is the largest inland delta in the world, formed by the discharging of the Okavango River over roughly 16,000 square kilometers of Kalahari Desert.
