Considering its different language, look, feel, and relative paucity of tourists, Uganda presents a markedly distinct travel opportunity from its better-known East African neighbors. Winston Churchill once called this charming country the ‘Pearl of Africa’, and indeed the nation offers a kind of quiet, unspoiled natural beauty: from peaceful wildlife parks to mist-enshrouded mountain slopes. Uganda also serves as the East African adrenaline capital. Whether white-water rafting, bungee jumping, or gorilla tracking, adventure-seekers will be happy to find adrenaline surging through their veins with the same force that water gushes down the Nile.
Having undergone a major transformation over the past fifteen years, Kampala now shines out among the other major East African cosmopolitan centers. Just a short jaunt from the capital city, the neat, green town of Entebbe sits serenely on the shores of Lake Victoria.
East of Kampala, the unassuming town of Jinja stands like a sentinel at the source of the Nile. Continuing north along the eastern border, Mt. Elgon and Kidepo Valley National Park provide two separate but distinctly worthwhile diversions. In Northwestern Uganda, the impressive Murchison Falls National Park has impressive scenery and wildlife to boot.
Towards the southwest of Uganda lie the legendary Rwenzori Mountains as well as Semliki Valley Game Reserve, Queen Elizabeth National Park, and Kibale Forest National Park, three of the country’s most prominent reserves that accommodate a variety of Ugandan wildlife. The region is known best, however, for the rich jungle forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, which provide refuge to endangered mountain gorillas. Appearing like a puddle next to the colossal Lake Victoria, Lake Mburo stands out nonetheless for the wildlife attracted to its shores.

KAMPALIA, JINJA & LAKE VICTORIA
The political, intellectual, and commercial center of Uganda, Kampala is a flourishing and vivacious metropolis.
The visible renovations on the city streets parallel a renewed energy that carouses through the local population. Despite its rapid expansion, Kampala maintains a friendly, laid-back atmosphere and is a pleasant place to spend some time.

Increasingly popular as a hiking destination, Mt. Elgon emanates prominently from the surrounding plains.
This craggy, extinct volcano sports a numerous collection of interesting natural features including waterfalls, gorges, and caves. Being a much less frequented location than its volcanic counterparts in Kenya and Tanzania, Mt. Elgon offers a wild and intimate trekking experience, rewarding adventurous travelers with spectacular views.

MURCHISON FALLS
The central attraction of the largest and one of the most exciting protected areas in Uganda - The Murchison Falls National Park is the inspiring phenomenon from which it derives its name.
At this spectacular point, the mighty Nile squeezes through a tight gorge, creating a powerful surge of water than explodes from the narrow cleft into a seething pool 43 meters below.

SEMLIKI VALLEY & THE RWENZORI MOUNTAINS
Stretching for over 100 km along the western border of Uganda, the magnificent Rwenzori Mountains are an inspiring sight to behold.
With their steep sides almost permanently cloaked in mist and some of the higher peaks under permanent ice-fields, this range is a hearty challenge for the adventure-seeking mountaineer, giving you a feeling of being totally outside time and space, because everything reminded unchanged for thousands of years and therefore is different from what you know.

QUEEN ELIZABETH & KIBALE FOREST
Bordered on one side by the Rwenzori Mountains and the other by Lake Edward, Queen Elizabeth National Park boasts the highest number of animal species of any park in Uganda.
With a great range of landscapes from open grasslands to dense swamps, the park is a hotbed of biodiversity. Highlights include boating along Kazinga Channel amidst herds of hippos and dropping down into the striking green Kyambura Gorge to catch a glimpse of its resident chimps.

BWINDI & MGAHINGA
The main attraction of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the opportunity to observe rare families of endangered mountain gorillas living in their natural environment.
In fact, Bwindi is one of this magnificent creature’s last remaining habitats. Gorillas, however, are certainly not the only thing to see here.

LAKE MBURO
Located near the southern border of Uganda, just west of Lake Victoria, Lake Mburo National Park comprises an acacia-speckled savanna punctuated by five lakes.
Some of Uganda’s less common animals dwell here, such as eland, topi, impala, and roan antelopes. Hippos, crocodiles, and Papyrus bird species all congregate near the water, and zebras frequent the park in large numbers.
